SPL Saturday May 16th Celtic 2 Dundee United 1 1:0 Larsson 81 Att: 58,386 MIB: Marshall Varga Balde McNamara Agathe Petrov Lennon Pearson Thompson Sutton Larsson subs Who would have thought it? After seven years of top quality football and entertainment Henrik Larsson wound up crying like a little girl who had just dropped her ice-cream. The script for this game was now so worn out you could see straight through it, so we changed it slightly. Instead of letting United go one up and clawing them back, Celtic went two up and then let them score. Net result was still the same so what the hell. This was all about Henrik signing off with some goals, but it certainly took some time to get going. 81 minutes to be precise. Prior to that United had defended in much the same way as Dunfermline a few weeks previous. Happily we weren't quite as slack at the back this time. So at 0:0 and with only 9 minutes of the 90 left Thompson floated in a free kick and when the keeper made his one misjudgement of the day Henrik took his chance, glancing the ball in to the unguarded net and charging off to celebrate the goal we thought would never arrive. With that the atmosphere lifted significantly (prior to the goal the stadium had been gripped with a fear that he might bow out without a goal - calamity) and a fast flowing move ended with Henrik crashing in his second. Then Varga made an unbelievably stupid tackle to concede a penalty, before Jackie made a perfectly timed tackle which had McCall bouncing up and down in rage that a second penalty hadn't been given. The ref gave McCall his dummy back and sent him to the baby room. And then it was over, no more Henrik in the SPL. The best we can hope for is that in a couple of months time we're not all crying like Henrik inside Celtic Park. |
