Scottish Cup 12th January 2002 Kilmarnock 0 Celtic 2 0:1 Hay o.g (53); 0:2 Larsson (65) Att: 11,269 MIB: Pooh Dallas Celtic: Douglas, Mjallby, Balde, Valgaeren, McNamara, Lennon, Lambert (Sylla), Petrov, Thompson (Petta ), Larsson, Hartson It's bad enough having to endure the misery of a visit to the great Lodge reservation (a.k.a Ayrshire) at the best of times, but the torrential rain and the prospect of a game played in a swamp, was as appealing as Bazza's twisted coupon. Waiting about for the kick-off, which was delayed for three quarters of an hour, was reminiscent of something out of Blade Runner. The floodlit torrential rain, the dark shadows and the mutant locals stranded from the rest of humanity in a pollution ridden and decrepit urban waste. The sight of Pooh Dallas and his SPL Replicant linesmen just seemed to confirm things. The sodden park didn't make for fast footed play, though the resident cloven hooves seemed a bit more certain on their feet and managed to leave Larsson and Petrov offside early on. Larsson, despite putting the ball in the pokey, saw his effort chalked off as the Kilie defenders left their trenches in a bit of a hurry, stranding a few of the hoops in an offside no man's land. Killie settled better after this and might have gone one up but for Lambert clearing off the line. It took until the second half for Celtic to dominate. Things improved when Hay got in front of Larsson to put the ball into his on net. Henke, starting to show some return to form, was pulling the Killie defence around like a bull after its own tail. It wasn't long before he slotted home Celtic's second and finished the game as a contest. Amazingly, Killie did get a chance at the death, when Rab D spilled a Tommy Johnston shot only for Chris Boyd to miss the from all of two yards in front of goal. |
