1972 anniversary to be marked by Rangers
WORLD EXCLUSIVE
By Archie McBooze
Rangers will mark the occasion of
the visit of Moscow Dynamo to Ibrox for the UEFA Consolation Cup
tie by inviting all of those concerned in the Ibrox club's greatest
ever European night for a reunion on the pitch at half-time.
The full 1972 Rangers team will be
there and the Ibrox tunnel is being specially widened so that
Derek Johnstone can fit through it.
As a gesture of respect chariman
David Murray has also asked the 1972 Russian team to attend, if
possible taking the place of their 2001 team on the pitch during
the game.

Speaking by satellite phone from
the bath of his private jet, the Ibrox supremo said yesterday,
"It would be a great honour for the Dynamo players to take
on the present Rangers team, even though many of them are in their
late fifties now. Besides, it might be the only chance our supporters
get to see a group of players who are slower than Bert Konterman.
I know people will say we should take on the present Moscow team
but they might be too hard to beat."
Also booked to appear on the pitch
at half-time are many of the fans who invaded the Barcelona playing
surface at the end of the match and caused Jaohn Greig to receive
their only European trophy in a broom cupboard under a flight
of stairs.
Several plane loads of Barcelona
riot police who were on duty that night will also be flying in
especially for the occasion in order to recreate the unique atmosphere
of that particular final.
Said a spokesman for the Rangers
supporters, "We're all dying to have a square go with the
Spanish cops again. With a bit of luck we might get another ban
for two or three years. It'll save us a few embarrassments in
the coming seasons in Europe."
General Franco is 103.
